Women in the Visual Arts: Elizabeth Murray, Laurie Simmons, Cecily Brown, and A.M. Homes

Novelist A.M. Homes moderates a panel discussion about women working in the visual arts. This event is part of the Ruth and Oliver Stanton About Women lecture series. Panelists include American painter Elizabeth Murray, American photographer Laurie Simmons, and British painter Cecily Brown. Each panelist shares slides of their work and speaks briefly about their career and development as an artist. Following the remarks, Homes speaks with the panelists about their thoughts on the status of women within the art world. They reflect on the importance and burden of history, second-wave feminist art, feminine materials and craft practices in fine art, ambition, success, and family. The discussion is followed with questions from the audience.
